Second and third phases of comprehensive renovation of the 228,550 SF Cadet Field House including mechanical rooms, locker rooms, ice arena upgrades, 200m hydraulic track replacement, and building envelope improvements.

Project Overview

SEC provided MEP engineering for the second and third phases of a comprehensive three-phase renovation of the 228,550 square foot Cadet Field House at the US Air Force Academy. Phase I had previously installed 180 ground source geothermal wells connected to four 250-ton chillers.

Phase II Scope

Phase II addressed mechanical rooms on the west Multipurpose Level, west offices and center locker rooms on the Participant Level, south and west Spectator Level perimeter and offices, basketball court surface replacement, new seamless dasher board system in the Ice Arena, new handrails in Ice Arena seating aisles, Track Team Locker reconfiguration, Varsity Basketball Locker Rooms remodeling, exterior glazing system replacement, a new ticket office, building envelope improvements at Mezzanine Level, and ceiling replacements. Phase II was completed in May 2023.

Phase III Scope

Phase III included Mezzanine air handling units and exhaust fans, HVAC and plumbing for new training and track team rooms, correction of non-code compliant overflow roof drains, Multipurpose Area improvements with restrooms and track team spaces, 200-meter hydraulic track replacement with polyurethane sports surfacing, south entry plaza concrete and guardrail repairs, and xeriscaping installation. Design was completed December 2022 with construction beginning March 2023.
