Dillon, Colorado • Completed July 2002
12,600 SF church addition featuring worship area with 500-seat capacity and comprehensive educational facilities. Project included innovative heating systems with CO2-based ventilation optimization and high-efficiency boilers.
This project involved design of a 12,600 S.F. addition to an existing church for the community of Dillon. This addition consisted of a worship area with seating for 500 people, narthex, four classrooms, student lounge, office space, kitchenette, and restrooms.
The worship area was served by a heating-only, indirect-fired make-up air unit with modulating gas burner. Microprocessor-based controls were utilized to modulate the firing rate based on supply air and space temperature, and modulate the outside air volume based on space CO2 level to minimize energy costs while maintaining comfort for 500 occupants.
The narthex, classrooms, student lounge, and kitchen were served by heating-only rooftop units with modulating gas burners and stainless steel heat exchangers due to the large quantity of outside air required. Microprocessor-based controls modulated the firing rate based on space temperature and modulated outside air volume based on space CO2 level to minimize energy costs.
The office space was served by a heating and cooling rooftop unit with gas heat and DX cooling due to the daily occupancy requirements of this space. This provided year-round climate control for administrative staff working in the facilities.
The restroom groups were ADA compliant and utilized wall-mounted fixtures to make cleaning easier. The building addition was fully sprinkled with a wet pipe sprinkler system using quick response sprinkler heads for fire protection throughout the facility.
